Year 1 have kick-started their Learning Adventure about Toys, with a trip to Brighton Toy and Model Museum. This was an informative and enjoyable day out, and we tried not to scare too many commuters on the train!
During the term we will be learning about old toys such as teddies, trains and cars, setting up class museums filled with parents’ and grandparents’ toys, and doing lots of observational drawing and painting.
We will be linking our work on Toys to Science, carrying out some investigations with moving toys. We have also done some separate science work exploring ‘ice balloons’. We will be working alongside some visiting science students to make Science an exciting and practical part of the children’s learning.
Our learning adventure also links to Literacy. We will be making leaflets for the museum, writing letters and labelling old toys using the laptops.
Finally we will finish the learning adventure with some Design Technology work about ‘pop-up’ books.
