On Wednesday 27th June Year 3 were transported back in time to 1940 and held a World War Two day. Part of the day was spent in a wartime classroom, practising putting on gas masks, having air raid drills and wartime lessons. The other part of the day was spent in the hall where the children learnt about evacuation and war on the home front through practical activities. First the children experienced evacuation and being chosen by host families. The children then learnt how to rescue bomb victims, put out incendiary bomb fires, put out fires with a stirrup pump and experience an air raid in an Anderson Shelter. It was a great day and there was a lot of effort put into the costumes in preparation for the day! |
