Introduction

Dear Parents and Carers,

 

We hope you all had a very enjoyable Easter break.  This is our curriculum letter which will give you an overview of what the children have been learning and will be learning during weeks 1, 2 and 3 of this term.  This will help you support your child at home and encourage them to talk about what they have been doing at school.

Name writing and writing common familiar words (words on bones).

Word building –CVC words-

Sounding out the words.

Matching the sounds to the letters.

Writing the words.

 

Letter formation-handwriting

 

Reading high frequency words

Mathematical Development

Finding one more/one less from a group of objects or number.

 

Doubling/halving/sharing

Language associated with addition and subtraction.

Using number, addition and subtraction in everyday problem solving

 

Counting forwards and backwards from 0-10, 0-20.

 

Number recognition by playing Bingo!

 

Counting objects accurately to 10 and above.

 

Writing numbers accurately.

The Golden Rules

Golden Time as a reward for following the Golden Rules (Friday afternoons)

Showing respect for each other and each other’s beliefs.

 

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Planting sunflower seeds.

Looking after the vegetable seeds we planted last term.

Talking about members of our family-

Where do they live? 

What do they do?

Make a family tree -pictures of our family.

What colour are my eyes?-eye colour survey and display.

Take photos of each other to use for mirror image portraits.

 

Physical Development

Travelling under and over equipment.

Recognising changes to our bodies when we exercise eg. Getting hot, panting, heart beating faster.

Ride on toys

Using a variety of small and large play equipment.

Developing sending skills (throwing, kicking)

Developing cutting skills using scissors.

Fine motor skill development-drawing letters in shaving foam, pencil control name writing.  Accurate letter formation.

Music and movement

 

Creative Development

Music with Mrs. Tucker(Tuesday afternoons)

Singing familiar songs

Looking at Van Gogh’s sunflower painting-describing it.

Learning different painting techniques in order to copy Van Gogh’s sunflower picture for our school art exhibition.

Using seeds in art work

Tie-dying t-shirts to wear to the sea life centre.(also white sheets for display)

Self portraits
